finally blogging..

So we have been getting some flack about not updating our site...We are home and trying to find the rhythm of our new life with 6. We are still at the stage where we have some help on most days, so we have only had a glance of the complete reality of our situation.

Piper and Phoebe are doing well and seem to be thriving and getting bigger. They are still eating every 3 hours and sleeping in between their feedings. It is really adorable to see them together and they definitely get fussy when one is left alone in the bassinet. My parents are King & Queen of holding and feeding them. I think my Mom's favorite phrase is, "Give me a baby".

Gabi loves to show off her sisters to people, saying, "These are my new baby sisters". Kennedy loves to help feed them bottles, saying, "Want to help you"(in his deep man voice). Their other favorite past time is climbing up the side of the changing table and holding on to watch the girls get their diapers changed...ooohhh sounds fun right?? Kids are weird!!

Hank and I are doing well, we think...not sure how we are supposed to feel besides tired....of course, we are very Happy to have the girls home and out of my belly!

We may be coming home soon....

Guess what??? The pediatrician has given us permission to let the girls stay in our room for the next 24 hours! If they do well, we should be coming home soon...possibly tomorrow! We will keep you posted.

Double Time....

They still sleep in the same little crib and often sleep nose to nose.
Baby's first ipod a.k.a. first Hearing test!
It has been 24 hours since the girls have been taken out of the Isolette "Condo" and they are now keeping their temps above the required number!! Wahoo!! Piper and Phoebe also had their hearing screening today and passed with 100%in each ear! The test is really neat they hook the up with "baby's first ipod"  as you can see in the pic the kids didn't think it was as cute as we did. They still sleep in the small little crib and often sleep nose to nose.  "Oh, they are just sooooo cute"!

Today I began nursing both babies at the same time which helped to make feedings a bit quicker. Our trips to feed the babies include; nursing, bottle feeding, diaper changing, swaddling, and pumping. We do this every 2-3 hours and usually takes about an hour and a half to finish everything.  Which leaves us a very short rest period in between.

I have quite a few adorable photos to post. I am not really able to post "gallery " pics yet, but I will let you know when I have those up but for now here are a few on the main page.

Stats: Piper & Phoebe both weigh just over 4lbs. Most importantly they both gained from last nights measurements. I am looking forward to what the Pediatrician says in the morning..hopefully we will be going home by Tuesday.

My Kennedy helper..

My Helper Kennedy!

Girls move into an Open Crib!!!!

We are so excited tonight because the girls have progress into an open crib!! YEAH!!! We are now praying that the girls will able to keep their temps on their own throughout the night. The pediatrician will be back in the morning to check on them and make decisions about what our next step will be. Thank you all for your wonderful thoughts and prayers!!  WE appreciate everyone who has called stopped by, and sent email messages and comments here on our site!!

Just keeping an eye on progress

No big progress on the babies except to say that they are not doing any worse and all of their continued tests look good. Piper has gained 40 grams and Phoebe has stayed the same. They haven't given us an exact weight that they must be in order to go home, just that they must be able to keep their temperature on their own. Presently, the girls are living in the condo at about 30 degrees Celsius.  My milk has finally come in so hopefully I can feed them enough to get some weight on  those bones which would help them maintain their temp. Here are a few pictures we took today. You can see Phoebe's size in comparison to an ordinary red pen.

CONDO life is HOT!!!!!

The pediatrician has brought wonderful news so far. The girls are keeping their temps with the help of their condo so in another day or so they will try moving them out into an open crib to see how they do.

The girls are weighing just over 4 pounds each and are still losing weight, but it seems to be slowing and the pediatrician is not too concerned. Plus, my new found breast milk is going to be a huge help!! Yeah!! I was celebrating by myself at 4 in the morning when my milk started really coming in. This means that the babies should no longer need formula if I can keep feeding and pumping. The Pediatrician will be back to check the girls again tomorrow and hopefully she will be able to give us an idea of when they may be able to come home.
We would be happy to have visitors if you would like to come by!!
Love to all!!

Piper & Phoebe, CONDO UPDATE

Piper & Phoebe, CONDO UPDATE

Well Piper & Phoebe have not been able to maintain their temperatures without assistance so they are now living together in a Special Care Nursery Condo! All other tests have been great, so they just need to gain some more weight so that they have enough body fat to keep their temperature up.

Piper & Phoebe came into the world!

Our precious baby girls have arrived!!! Phoebe and Piper came into the world Monday just after noon. Here is the link to a slideshow that our friend and photographer put together. Enjoy! It was an exciting night and Day! We went to the hospital about midnight, with contractions 4 mins apart for 3 hours and were still feeling uncertain if they were going to keep us or send us home.  Sandra came over and stayed with the kids at our house. Finally, around 7am they decided that I had progressed enough and that the contractions were steady enough to keep us and said that we would definitely be having the babies sometime that day. I received my epidural, broke my water and began Pitocin. Just before noon they checked me and we realized that the first baby's head was crowning. They quickly let everyone know that it was time and sent me to the Operating Room. As we arrived into the OR they had me slide over onto the OR table and out slid Piper!! yes, thats right, no pushing just our first baby girl making her very grand entrance. Phoebe (the baby on top) had been laying sideways for such a long time in this pregnancy gave the docs a hard time and would not turn enough for them to reach her. So they began the cesarean operation to remove her. It was tough, but they managed to get her out just 20 minutes after Piper was born.
Here are their stats at birth:
Piper Paci Sawyer("Pacey like Lacey")
born at 12:07pm, weighing 4lb 10 oz. 17 3/4" long
Phoebe Renee Sawyer
Born at 12:27pm, weighing 4lb 8oz  17 1/2" long
We will try to get some still pics put up here too! Check back.

Pregnant and Waiting

Here I sit at 35 Weeks with these twin girls...I find it interesting that I somehow feel better than I did a month ago. Yes, I am still nauseous and tired, but God has blessed me this week with great family and friends to support me. As I reflect, it is amazing to think that I am carrying two babies in my tummy. Wow, what a true blessing!! Just a few days ago I thought I would lose my mind with worry and stress and today I find myself filled with a great sense of peace and joy!

My parents have been spending the last few weeks here helping to get things squared away at the house for the arrival of our girls. They have been a tremendous help and Hank and I appreciate it very much! Kennedy is definitely a Momma's boy and I am concerned about him the most, but Gabi is very strong and seems to have a better understanding, so I am praying that she will help her brother to love our new, bigger family!

Thank you to all of you who have prayed for us and sent your love and well wishes our way! We hope that in a few weeks we will be announcing the arrival of our two new baby girls! Wishing you all much love and a very Happy 4th of July!
